a day in the life: 4 months

So, first of all, I have to say that I am copying this 'a day in the life of' idea from my friend Kim who is am amazing blogger, mom, runner/exerciser, healthy food chef, wife, and the list goes on. If any of those things are a passion of yours as well...check out her blog!

Kim has being blogging often about her new little guy and she does a great monthly update. I figured that my family and friends back in the states would love a post like that about Jadon; so, I have decided to be a follower!

Jadon is 4 months!
Here is what is schedule looks like right now:
6:20 am- Somedays it's earlier, some days its a tad later...but most days it is right about this time, Jadon wakes up. He wiggles and kicks in his bed for a bit and eventually gives out some happy shouts until one of us comes and gets him. Daddy usually gets him at this time and hangs out with him as he gets ready for work.
7:00 am- Jadon eats. He is a quick eater and it usually only takes 10 to 15 minutes for me to nurse.

7:20-8:00 am Waketime- This usually includes some of the following activities-- lots of face to face play time with mommy, a diaper change, a Skype session with one of the grandparents :), time on the playmat, etc.

8:00-10:00 am He is usually ready to go down for a nap by 8. Some morning its a little earlier and some days its a bit later. But more days than not, he is READY for this nap. He goes down easily and usually naps for at least a hour and half, but more often 2 hours!

10:00 am -Jadon feeds.

10:20-11:30 Waketime, which may include any of the following: time on the play mat, running errands with mommy, sitting in the Bumbo, reading books, interacting with me, a walk in the stoller, a bath, tummy time, go visit Daddy at work

11:30-1:00- Nap time. This nap usually only happens if we are home. If we are out running errands, taking a walk, visiting the school, or anything of that sort--he usually doesn't nap or only takes a 10-20 min. cat nap. But when home--its usually an hour to an hour and a half nap.

1:00 pm- Jadon feeds.

1:20-2:00/2:15 Waketime--which may include any of the following: time on the playmat, Bumbo, tummy time, reading books, a bath, interacting with me, etc.

2:15-4:00 Nap time. This is usually another good nap. More times than not, this nap is about 2 hours.

4:00 pm- Jadon feeds

4:20-5:30/6:00 Waketime--Daddy is usually coming home about this time, so he spends most of this waketime playing with Daddy (while I get dinner ready).

6:00-6:30- Cat Nap! Jadon usually falls asleep for a short cat nap sometime between 5:30 and 6:00. He usually only sleeps between 20 to 40 minutes. He wakes up and gives out a few cheerful yells for us to come and get him.

7:00 pm- Jadon feeds.

7:20-7:50 Waketime. We usually hang out as a family during this time (sitting on the couch talking and playing)
Usually around 7:50 we will start getting ready for bed--sometimes earlier/sometimes later (depends on how naps went that day)
We change diaper, read a bible story in the dark (by flashlight), swaddle him (with one arm out), give him his pacifier, sing Jesus Loves me, and to bed he goes.
He usually goes down pretty quickly!

10:45 pm Dreamfeed- I nurse Jadon at this time before I go to sleep. He usually is asleep for it all. I pick him up out of bed, nurse him in the dark, and lay him back in bed.

11:00 pm- I SLEEP! :)
(Depending on how he does, I get to sleep basically until 7 am. He is still sleeping in our room (for a few reasons, but won't elaborate) and therefore we hear all his noises. He is SUPER wiggly. He usually starts throwing his feet around at about 4 am and I may have to get up and give him his pacifier. On bad days I have to pick him up and hold him for a bit (or if I am really tired, pick him up and take him into our bed, where cuddled up we both go back to sleep).

His routine is pretty consistent! I have thought about taking away the dreamfeed or changing to a 4 hour schedule--but he is not ready. Every time I think about it or start to shift things just a bit, he lets me know that he needs things to stay the way they are!
So, we will keep it this way for now. We will see what happens in just a few weeks though when we make the INTERNATIONAL--12 HOUR time zone change for the summer! I have a feeling our "perfect" little schedule will become utter chaos!

As for growth and developments:
Jadon got his four month shots this week. Here he is with his friend, Ruby. They were born at the same hospital just two days apart from each other. They decided to share in this occasion together :) They both did great!

Our little guy is measuring: 6.1 kg (13 lbs 7 oz) and he is 65 cm (25 1/2 in.)
Everyone who sees him says "big boy" or "wow, he is really big" but our pediatrician says he is too small and that he needs to 'eat more'. He is in the 15-20th percentile for weight and the 75-80th percentile for height.
He still seems to be long and lean. We think he is 'just right' and we TRY not to worry too much about all the numbers, percents, and eating advice! He is happy and growing....that is what matters to us.

Quirks, Personality, and new tricks:
- He has discovered his own voice this month. He can be SO loud now. We love how much he talks to us. Recently he has started a new noise...sort of like a growl. He does this A LOT!
- He is laughing and giggling a lot more (he is SUPER ticklish)
- He reacts to peek-a-book (its loads of fun)
- He loves to stand with us supporting him. I think he prefers standing to most positions
- He "plays" with the cute little boy in the mirror. His face just lights up!
- He has started noticing his feet, but hasn't started grabbing them or trying to suck his toes yet. I think his cloth diapers prevent this a bit (just too bulky, which really limits the flexibility...or maybe he just got his momma's genes in that department)
- He grabs his pacifier and pulls it out of his mouth now (but can't quite get it back in). However, he has found his thumb instead. When he goes down for a nap or bed, we always give him his pacifier and when we go in to check on him 10 minutes later to see if he is alseep, he is almost always sucking his thumb!

Happy 4 months Jadon! We love you!

Pinterest Project

So, for months I have been following the trend and pinning away on pinterest.

I actually quite like the concept! It has been both fun and helpful to find new DIY craft projects and tutorials, party and gift ideas, photo opportunities inspirations, family/parenting tips, and delicious recipes. AND the best part is...it allows me to store them all in an organized way so I can easily find them again!

I will admit...I do pin and repin frequently and quickly, without really taking the time to read the actual linked posts, directions, etc.
However, despite that fact, I have actually tried out a FEW of my pins (baby room ideas, DIY crafts, and recipes).

Tonight was one of those times. I was feeling the need to craft this week. So, I borrowed a sewing machine from a friend. This afternoon, I was scrolling through my pins to try and get some inspiration--to find a project to just go for it with.

A cute little headband is what peaked my interest!
I clicked on the picture and read through the linked blog that gave the step by step instruction to DIY.
I was pleasantly surprised to find out, it required no sewing at all!

All I needed was an old t-shirt, a pair of scissors, and a hot glue gun. SCORE! No trying to figure out how to thread the machine, and find the right thread, and figure out the bobbin, etc. etc.

So...when I had a few moments this evening to spare--I let my need to create take over :)

The whole project only took a few minutes, the tutorial was GREAT, and I LOVE how it turned out--so I made more than one!

Two new headbands in a matter of MINUTES! Excited to spruce up the pony tail that I now sport every day!

Is it SO hot and humid where you live that you can not possibly leave your hair down? Are you a new mom who has NO time to do her hair? Or do you just want to spruce up your look? What every it may be...

First Mother's Day

Sunday May 13, 2012. My first Mother's Day... as a mom.
It definitely had a different feel to it.
I think Cam felt a lot of pressure to make it something special, but he didn't need to stress. I tried to reassure him. I know he doesn't think he is creative enough, but he always makes me feel loved and cherished. I was thrilled with how the day turned out.

It started on Saturday night. My two men took a walk together to give me a bit of down time (and I think to get some supplies for Sunday:)
They came home with roses. One from Cam and one from Jadon. Perfectly sweet.

You can tell Jadon took lots of time and effort picking out the perfect flower for me :)

On Sunday morning, I received a yummy breakfast in bed. I also was given some VERY thoughtful mother's day cards, plus a Starbucks gift card and a coupon for a day out with a girlfriend (Cameron has picked up on my needs to have some social girl time).

Later that morning, we went for a family walk around Taipei, soaking up the sun and time with one another. It was Jadon's first time to ride in the stroller like a big boy (meaning without the carseat carrier attached--just sitting up on his own):

While walking, my honey bought me one of my favorite teas and also got me a snack I had been craving earlier in the week. Then we sat in the park for a bit (to eat our green onion pancake dan bings). I was overwhelmed while sitting there--I was having so much fun just sitting and talking with Cam and watching Jadon kick and play.

The rest of the afternoon was spent at home--taking naps, playing together, eating some yummy barbeque chicken for dinner, etc. I even had time to read a book :)

We finished off the night with mango bings! Doesn't get much better than that!

I am so blessed to have Jadon "call" me mom (well not yet, but he will). Being a mom is just indescribable! I feel that motherhood has already changed my heart in so many ways. It's so special and so unique, but I don't have the words to verbalize all that yet.

It was a great Mother's Day. I am so grateful to my mom who has been an amazing model and support to me. I am also grateful for so many of the other motherly roles in my life--my step mom, mother in law, and countless friends who are also moms!
But today, its these two that made me feel SO loved and cherished. I am one lucky woman!

It doesn't get much better...
than these blue eyes, and...
and this sweet smile.

I am a mommy in love!

12 days of Capturing Motherhood through your Lens!

I am back!!! (and with 12 really cute pictures at that)

I know its been a LONG time since you have seen or heard from us on here. You had a week play by play of my baby bump and baby boy's development for 20 weeks or so, and then all of a sudden--nothing! No announcement, no "BABY is here!!", no pictures of our adorable little guy, NOTHING!
Its kind of like a movie with no ending, and I hate that! So, I am sorry.

I will give a quick (very quick and to the point) update:

Baby Boy is here. He arrived via c-section on January 18, 2012. His name is Jadon.
He is cute. SO cute! We love him.
He is growing. and changing. and growing some more! He is now 3 months old?!?!? Where does time go.

I would love to someday write a post recounting the birth, the special weeks we spent with our moms following Jadon's birth, and all the many cherished moments that have occurred throughout these last three months as we have watched Jadon grow, but lets be realistic...if it hasn't happened yet, its probably not going to happen.

It IS a goal though.

I also hope to start updating you weekly with pictures and a little blurb about life with our little guy!

Again...its a goal. We will see :)

One thing I have done A LOT of in the last few months (other than nursing, changing diapers, laundry, playing on the floor, etc) is taking pictures. I just can't get enough of his cuteness and I try desperately to capture it on camera...wishing I could freeze time and not let these moments be forgotten or passed by.
Well, they are passing, and OH so quickly at that....but we are enjoying them and we do have LOTS of pictures to document this amazing time!

Since I am taking so many pictures, when I saw the photo challenge-- 12 days of Capturing Motherhood through your Lens-- hosted by my friend's magazine 'Inspired by Family', I decided to go for it.
First of all, I have plenty of photos to choose from.
Second of all, its a great chance to try some new things with the camera (even though my camera broke mid challenge)
Third, there are some great prizes.
and Fourth, what a better way to get back to the blogging world than with a post of 12 SUPER cute pictures of our little guy!

So, with no further delay, here they are:

Day 1: Where/What I spend my day...

Day 2: Puts a Smile on my face

Day 3: Depth of Field

Day 4: L.O.V.E

Day 5: Just Can't Get Enough

Day 6: Interesting View Point

Day 7: Messy Moments (I spared you the really gross stuff)

Day 8: Makes you go Hmmm? or Yummmm!

Day 9: Rule of Thirds

Day 10: Silly

Day 11: Object

Day 12: Thankful/Blessed (and boy am I both...SO thankful and SO blessed. I am one happy momma!)

So, even though this is the first update in a long time--it gives you glimpse into my world (motherhood)...I hope you enjoyed the view from my lens :)

More to come soon (I hope!)
