Maternity Pictures

A few weekends ago (probably around week 34), we had a friend come up from Taichung who is a wonderful at taking pictures....so we took advantage of the opportunity and got some maternity pictures taken. It was a NASTY rainy Taipei day (which is really all we have had for MONTHS), but we headed out with umbrellas in hand. We got in some great shots before the constant drizzle became more of a downpour.

more pictures are on flickr!!! Check them out!

35 weeks....35 days or so to go!

I can't believe that the time has gone by so quickly. It is crazy to think we are within a month of meeting this little guy!

Here is how things are shaping up--
At week 34 we had another appointment with Dr. Jean.
*He is still breech
*He is estimated to weigh about 5.4 lbs right now (so a big boy)
*His head is measuring about 2 weeks ahead (YIKES)
* His abdomen and femur were about 1 week ahead

We didn't ask many questions at our last appointment, so that is about all we know right now.

Week 35 updates say:
*He is around 18 to 20 inches long
*He is about 5 1/2 pounds
*He doesn't have much room to maneuver any more, as the womb is getting quite snug (which is still scary...because I want him to flip SO badly)
*His kidneys are fully developed
*His liver is able to process some waste products
*He is continuing to pack on brain cells

All in all, I am still feeling great. Pregnancy has been great and has gone by SOO quickly! Since we are on Christmas vacation now, we have been spending LOTS of time trying to get him to flip, lots of time doing little projects for his room, and lots of time just RELAXING together. It has been a very low key Christmas....but we understand that it might be our last like it (and we are enjoying that too).

Baby Shower #2

So, I was spoiled and showered once again with blessings and love. A group of moms in my class decided they want to host a baby shower at school for me with all the kids. It was SUCH a special event!
Lots of moms showed up and the kids were so excited to surprise me!

Each child decorated a portion of that banner in art class so that it was a surprise for me. Here are two pieces of the banner that brought a huge smile to my face. So funny!

The shower started with prayer time. The kid's prayed for myself and baby boy Klump and their words and thoughts were just precious.
"Please help it not to hurt too bad when the baby comes out." "Please help the baby to be normal." "Please make the baby cute." "Thank you for the blessing of a baby and help Mrs. Klump to be a good mom." "Help her not to miss us too much."

After prayer time, it was time to eat:

After eating, we played a game. The kids had to guess how many toilet paper squares it would take to wrap around my tummy! Let's just say I was glad to see most of them giving "reasonable estimates" :)

Then they surprised me with a 'Baby Wise' book written by them. They each had created a page for me. It is chocked full of great advice from them. So fun to read!! They each stood up at the shower and told me one piece of advice that they had written in the book. (The prompts were....as a mom you should ALWAYS OR as a mom you should never, when the baby is crying, etc.)
"Never leave the baby without a diaper on." "When the baby is tired, give it sleeping potion." "Never take the baby to the supermarket until he is a toddler." "Never throw the baby." "Never read him monster stories." "Always take care of the baby with the word of God."

After the advice session, it was time to open the gifts. The kids were so excited and wanted to know what each gift was and what it was for (which at times, was quite awkward)
"Oh, these are just bags that hold milk for the baby." (as the box says BREAST MILK BAGS real big)
We came home and were able to check almost EVERYTHING off our list. What a blessing!

After opening all the gifts, I listened to their suggestions of baby names and also read them a book (that someone had gotten for me).

WHAT A SWEET AND SPECIAL MEMORY...and what a GREAT group of KIDS!

One of my favorite pictures from the party was taken of myself and a few of my students' younger siblings:
"I love your baby Mrs. Klump" (me too girls, me too!)

December Happenings...

We didn't waste anytime jumping in to the Christmas season this December. Thursday December 1st, we reflected upon the TRUE reason for Christmas as our elementary students acted out the Christmas story at this years Elementary concert.
My second grade "sheep"

Cam's third grade stable animals (camel, donkeys, cows, and sheep)

We then jumped into the holiday spirit of giving at school by participating in this years Christmas project. Our school wanted to raise money to give 1000 gifts to 1000 kids with disabilities in Taipei this Christmas. The students and teachers worked together to come up with projects that would raise money for this cause. Our goal was 200,000 NT dollars and we blew that limit out of the water by raising 284,000 NT. My second grade class alone raise 50,000 NT (around 1500 US dollars) by hosting a 'Kidnap the Teacher' contest.
Here are some pictures of my class packaging gift boxes and celebrating our success (we earned a pizza party for raising the most money):

You can imagine....with only two full weeks of school in December before Christmas break, the days were filled with activities galore! On top of all the Christmas fun, I felt the pressure of getting certain units and benchmarks wrapped up and getting LOTS of assessments given. I knew that December 16th was quickly approaching and that I would need to be ready to hand my class off to someone else. (for those of you who don't know...I am not officially a stay at home mom. Someone else will be teaching second grade for the remainder of the year).

My last day arrived in a blink of an eye. A very special day it was (but my heart was SUCH a mix of emotions)....
*it started with the teachers caroling out front to welcome in the students and parents
*I then spent a few hours with my kids (reading books, playing games, praying, etc)
*one last all school chapel for me (probably my favorite thing about Bethany), very bitter sweet
*followed by LOTS of sweet hugs and goodbyes
*and then ending with a yummy staff lunch (Korean BBQ) to celebrate the start of vacation
Cam and I in the lobby that day!

November...in pictures

So, I have been taking LOTS of pictures over the past few months AND we have felt the busyness that this time of the year often brings--but I haven't been very good about updates (other than the weekly growth chart).

So here is a recap of November/December:
We took part in the Thanksgiving family tradition of making cremes with our Taipei family (the Edwards).

We then took the cremes (and lots of other yummy food) and went to the orphanage in Luo Dong to celebrate Thanksgiving with other missionaries from around the island. While there we got to love on sweet little Josiah--who will SOON be living with dear family friends in Bellefontaine, Ohio. We quickly fell in love! I mean, how could you not?

A few days later we woke up super early and watched the 'Big Game':

For the FIRST time since Cam and I have been together, the game went Cam's way. This picture was just to make his day:

Of course, MANY other things happened during the month of November...but those were some highlights for us! November passed by in a blink. Literally. However, we were reminded MANY times throughout the month how much we have to be thankful for. God is SO good and he graciously pours out his love and blessings on us daily! I want to keep a heart of THANKSGIVING now and in the days to come, even though the season has quickly passed us!
